Specifications and Grades

Understanding the different grades of steel and fasteners is crucial when selecting materials for plate washers and anchor templates in construction and manufacturing. The following is an overview of several key grades categorized by their properties and typical applications.

A36 steel is a commonly used structural grade known for its excellent weldability and machinability. It has a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi, making it suitable for various structural applications, including plate washers and anchor templates. A36 washers provide reliable load distribution and are often utilized in construction projects where moderate strength and durability are required. Their availability in multiple forms, such as plates and bars, makes them a popular choice for fabricators.

A572 Grade 50 is a high-strength, low-alloy steel grade with a minimum yield strength of 50,000 psi. This grade is particularly beneficial for plate washers and anchor templates that need to withstand higher loads without increasing weight. A572-50’s superior mechanical properties and excellent weldability make it ideal for demanding structural applications, such as bridges and tall buildings. Using A572-50 for plate washers ensures they can handle significant forces while maintaining structural integrity.

F436 is a specification for hardened flat washers that are crucial when used with high-strength bolts in structural applications. These washers are designed to distribute loads effectively and prevent damage to the surfaces they fasten. F436 washers are made from materials that are heat-treated to achieve specific hardness levels, enhancing their load-bearing capacity and resistance to deformation. In the context of anchor templates, F436 washers provide the necessary support to maintain bolt alignment and stability during the concrete pouring process.

Hardened steel refers to steel that has undergone a heat treatment process, increasing its hardness and strength significantly. Hardened plate washers are ideal for applications requiring high wear resistance and durability, such as in heavy machinery and construction settings. These washers are essential for ensuring that fasteners remain secure and effective under stress, making them a reliable choice for use in structural applications.

304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel are very commonly used as washers or custom plate washers. Known for their corrosion-resistant properties due to containing at least 10.5% chromium, these grades are excellent choices for plate washers subjected to harsh environments. These materials are particularly advantageous in applications where exposure to moisture or chemicals is a concern, ensuring durability and reliable performance. Additionally, stainless steel washers provide strong mechanical properties, making them suitable for various structural components, particularly in marine, industrial, and food processing settings. Their corrosion resistance enhances their longevity, making them ideal for demanding applications where other materials may fail.
